Bohola GAA club is founded

In January 1974 a group of footballers and supporters from the Bohola, Straide and Foxford areas met at a special meeting in the old Bohola School then situated at the rear of the Parish Church. At that meeting it was decided to form a Bohola football club. There was some scepticism about the ability of the area to sustain a football club given the large scale emigration at the time, but wiser council prevailed and then Parish priest Fr Martin Mac Manus R.I.P. was installed as the first Chairman of the club with Joe Mc Evey being the first secretary of the club and Willie Malee becoming the clubs first treasurer.
In its very first year in existence the club surprised the football fraternity throughout the county by winning the Divisional Junior Title against Charlestown defeating a fancied Charlestown, later defeating Lacken in the County Semi final and narrowly losing to Islandeady in the County final. The club then known as Bohola was promoted to Intermediate status for the coming 1975 season.
